Personal Growth

With many opportunities across North America, it’s possible to achieve your career goals with Flynn. The personal stories below are typical of the experience of many Flynn employees.

Mauro Mauro Videla
Superintendent
Flynn Toronto
I started roofing in 2010 as a general labourer; the guy who cleans up the debris of the roof. As the years went on I started to assert myself, as I wanted to learn and move ahead. I soon became Lead Hand. I was selected to be a Frontline Coach through a Flynn University program. That experience opened up my eyes and mind. Through hard work and positive energy you can succeed in Flynn. I was then approached with an opportunity to become a Health and Safety Specialist, and then Superintendent.
Blaine Blaine Braun
Branch Manager
Flynn Toronto

I was hired as a labourer in the decking department in Vancouver. I soon progressed to Metals Foreman working with decking, architectural sheet metal, and cladding. I became a Roofing Superintendent in 2011. In 2016, I moved my family to Flynn's Regina office to take the position of Roofing Manager. In 2019 I became Branch Manager of Flynn's operations in Hamilton Ontario, and in 2021 took on the same role in Toronto. It doesn't matter where you begin with Flynn, this is the same opportunity for each person that comes through our doors. From the field to the office, Flynn invests in its employees and provides opportunities to grow.
Eric Eric Veniot
Atlantic Regional Manager
As a journeyman glazier by trade, I was a foreman for Bahrys Glass in Calgary when Flynn acquired the company in 2008. I continued as Glazing Foreman on two projects for Flynn until 2009, when I became Construction Manager for the Edmonton Glazing Division. In 2011 I was offered the position of Branch Manager in Moncton, and relocated to New Brunswick (I was born in Bathurst NB, so I was moving home). In 2015 I was offered my current position of Atlantic Regional Manager, and relocated to Halifax.
Brian Brian Decker
Superintendent
Flynn Toronto
Started at Flynn as a material handler and worked my way to a sheeter then a lead hand. After six years I became a Foreman. I've got to travel to many different projects and work on many high-profile projects. After many years of being a Foreman I was presented with the opportunity to move into a management role as a superintendent for Architectural Metal Division in the Greater Toronto Area. The most unique privileges of working for this company is their commitment to a safe work place and skills development.
Tyler Tyler Mills
Branch Manager
Flynn Kelowna
Tyler joined Flynn in 2016, as a Project Manager in the waterproofing division in Calgary. He was promoted to Waterproofing Division Manager the very next year, and helped grow the local team. Last year, Tyler was offered the position of Service Manager at Flynn’s Kelowna branch, where he has moved his family and has made an immediate contribution.
Anner Anner
Crating and Shipping & Receiving Foreman
Flynn Toronto
Anner joined one of Flynn’s manufacturing facilities 12 years ago to build, pack, and ship crates. He soon progressed to Lead Hand. In 2017, Anner attended Flynn University for Frontline Leaders: a two-day workshop for the current and future leaders of Flynn’s field and shop operations. Last year, Anner became Crating and Shipping & Receiving Foreman.
Alan Alan Zych
Vice President of IT
Flynn Toronto
Alan Zych joined Flynn in 2013 as a Sharepoint developer, and quickly identified digital tools that could improve Flynn’s business processes. He became Manager of Mobile and Web Apps in 2014, Director in 2019, and in November 2020 became Flynn’s first Vice President of IT. "There is tons of opportunity to distinguish yourself and Flynn stands out for its ability to reward and recognize talent. There is nothing I can think of professionally that I’d want to do in my career that I can’t see being able to do at Flynn. There are just so many opportunities."
Irene Irene Neureuther
Director of HR Operations
Flynn Toronto
Irene joined Flynn in 2007 as an HR Administrator, and nine years later had worked her way up to Director of HR Operations. “I feel so fortunate to have joined Flynn early in my career. As the company has grown, both in size and through people development, I’ve been able to grow alongside it. What keeps me working here is, hands-down, the people. My Flynn family."

Culture of Safety

There’s nothing more important to us than people. That’s why safety is the top priority at Flynn. It is the core of our culture.

Safety at Flynn starts and ends with taking “CARE”: Competence, Awareness, Risk Management, and Empowerment. We are all responsible for ensuring that everyone goes home safe, to the things that matter most.

We pride ourselves on our industry-leading health & safety program. Flynn always goes above and beyond compliance safety requirements. We ensure that everyone in Flynn is equally invested and takes ownership of the program. The health & safety culture we’ve developed and nurture sets Flynn apart.

Named after our company founder, the Don Flynn Safety Awards are our version of the Stanley Cup! Each year, two branches with the top health and safety performances have a celebration in recognition of their hard work and dedication to our thriving safety culture. This highly sought-after trophy is displayed in their offices until new winners are announced the following year.

OUR CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT JOURNEY

For companies joining the Flynn Family, a recurring theme has been subsequent organic growth as Flynn’s Shared Services, operational best practices team, and national service operations are brought to bear. These add financial strength, and bring growth opportunities for our people.

Opex OPEX

Flynn branches have developed their own best practices, which has created a large untapped collective knowledge across Flynn. In order to share this knowledge we created the Flynn Operational Excellence Team (OPEX). OPEX is an internal group whose goal is to identify and implement best practices across all of our scopes, while at the same time look for continuous improvement. OPEX team members may be some of the first Flynn staff your field crews will get to meet.
Shared Services Shared Services
In 2005 Flynn began to develop support functions like Human Resources, IT, Workplace Health & Safety, and other “Shared Services” that have grown to be such a huge differentiator between us and our competitors. While these teams are based at Flynn’s head office in Toronto, members of Shared Services also work locally across the company.
National Services National Service
Flynn has 150+ repair and maintenance crews coast to coast. They serve the building services industry with 24-HR emergency repair, roof inspection, and preventive maintenance services. Strategic and national customers make up a large percentage of revenue from Flynn’s Service division. Financial and personnel growth from Service is a recurring theme of Flynn’s post-merger activities.

Welcome to the Flynn Family!
